CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS-Issue #5: Brief Encounters

ISSUE #5: BRIEF ENCOUNTERS

Ponytail is bending down on one knee and asking you for submissions to our next issue on the theme of Brief Encounters. Brief Encounters can have long lasting reverberations on how we live our lives or they can merely be a passing moment soon forgotten. They can be emotional, social or cultural exchanges, human interactions or encounters with nature, the paranormal. They can be romantic or otherwise. Maybe you just want to write about how they should have just had sex in the film instead of increasingly fraught cups of tea. Just go for it.

This New Yorker podcast of Roy Spivey by Miranda July read by David Sedaris is a good point of departure for the theme both as a narrative catalyst and as a narrative constraint.  It's sad and hilarious:

Ponytail happily accepts short stories, humour pieces, personal essays, poetry and comic strips or pieces.
Please send to all submissions (or any questions you might have) to ponytail.zine[at]gmail.com by

DUPE INTERVIEW WITH PONYTAIL EDITOR.

I was recently interview by DUPE about hair, writing, Ponytail, the breakdown of my marriage to Tom Cruise and my escape from scientology- 'enjoy' here

ZINE LOVE- DUPE!

In the throes of Olympic fever, I have been a negligent editor and blogger to say the least. Although arguably it is my personal support that led to Team GB's stomping victory (you're welcome guys). BUT Issue #4 is on its way AND there's lots of news.

Back in July 'The Hairy Issue' the debut zine project of art collective Dupe was released. Beautifully printed and curated, it mixes writing, photography and illustration on the theme of 'Hair' with humour and poignancy. Personal highlights include the photography of Jorge Antony Stride (who I used to work with at a bowling alley) and 'A Ginger Childhood' by Benedict Le Gauche (who also has red hair).

Dupe have now rolled this out to become a multi-media platform, including an online TV channel, interviewing voices from across the creative spectrum in a way that is as fun as it is evocative.

Please visit their blog for more information and to buy The Hairy Issue.

ISSUE #4: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: FOOD

"Food Glorious Food.
Hot sausage and mustard
something something custard!"

Issue #3 isn't even cold and we're already flirting with the beginnings of Issue #4 on the theme of "Food": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food
Food and our relationship with it is something that encompasses both the every day and the extreme, phobias and fetishes, determined deprivation or enforced excess. It is something that is influenced by personal taste, images of ourselves we wish to project and a distinct tapestry of cultures and traditions.
From tzatziki to tzimmes, from smorgasbord to stromboli, from best to wurst (I'm so sorry for that one) there's plenty to write about what we stuff in our mouths and up them guts.

Ponytail is happy to accept short stories, poetry, comic strips/ graphic pieces, and non-fiction writing/ personal essays.

The deadline is Monday 16th July.
Please email all work to ponytail[dot]zine[at]gmail[dot]com
Bon Appétit and we look forward to reading your offerings.
